In 2002, the Barrie & District Association for People with Special Needs (BDAPSN) completed a long and complex transition. The services provided by the former Orillia and District Association for Community Living were integrated into the work carried out by BDAPSN. As the longer journey of nurturing a brand new entity begins, it was deemed important to reflect on the experience and identify the knowledge gained from the transition process. In order to capture the experience and knowledge, extensive interviews were held with the Transition Team as well as surveying all staff. The Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services (MCFCS) Central East Regional Office was invited to provide their comments. This document represents the collective response. It begins by identifying the overarching strategies that guided the transition and reflects on what went well, what didn't go so well and what would change if the experience were repeated. Published by the Ontario Association on Developmental Disabilities, the report provides invaluable insight into all processes of transition and development in service organizations. Best Practices and Key Factors is now out-of-print
