Association members support promising scholars and
reward conscientious professionals with three $1,000 scholarships and six
awards. Members nominate their peers and a selection committee presents
the awards at our annual conference.
Awards are also presented annually by our affiliate
organization, the Research Special Interest Group. Please visit the RSIG

Hull-Roeher Award of Merit
In honour of John Hull and G. Allan Roeher, each of whom made a
significant contribution in the field of developmental disabilities within
the Province of Ontario.
To be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding
contribution or special achievement in one of the following areas.
- Education: research in the field of developmental disabilities
- Humanitarianism: promotion of human welfare and/or social reform
- Research: scientific knowledge in the field of developmental
disabilities
- Service: improvement of services to individuals with developmental
disabilities
- Special: not covered by other categories
Directors' Awards of Excellence
For an OADD member who has made, or is making, a very substantial and
extensive contribution to the direction, leadership and promotion of OADD.
Media Award
To be presented to an individual in Ontario who, through their work
with the press, radio, television and film has heightened the awareness of
the public to the potential and achievements of individuals with
developmental disabilities and whose work has resulted in documented
changes in attitude within the community.
Achievement Award
To be presented to an individual in Ontario who, through his or her
efforts and example has heightened the awareness of the community to the
potential of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Professional Recognition Award
To be presented to an individual who, through his/her professional
interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities has
contributed significantly to their quality of life.
Staff Recognition Award
To be presented to a member who is employed with a service funded
agency to provide services with the developmentally disabled who, as a
professional, has contributed significantly to better understanding of
individuals as they become independent within their community.
Kay Sansom Scholarship
Three awards of $1,000 each and a one-year membership in OADD are
available to Ontario students with interests in developmental
disabilities: medical and graduate students, undergraduate students and
community college students. The Award must be used to pursue a full-time,
specific educational goal in a recognized program associated with a
professional discipline related to developmental disabilities. It may not
be used for travel.

February 1, annually.
